Spanish ceramic art figurines

Figures and statuettes of Spanish ceramics art – a form of Spanish pottery at its most unique and a good gift from Spain

Ceramic art is art made from ceramic materials, including clay. It exists in many forms including art ware, tiles, figurines, sculptures, and tableware. While some ceramics are considered fine art, as pottery or sculpture, some are considered to be decorative. There is a long history of ceramic art in almost all developed cultures, and Spain is no different in this respect.

Authentic Spanish gifts and souvenirs

In our ♥  Good Luck Gift Shop we stock Figurines  which represent deities, mythical symbols and animals. Figurines can be realistic or iconic, depending on the skill and intention of the creator, but we have tried to source our ceramic pieces as decorative art or for general interior decoration in order to make fantastic gifts to pass on wishes of good luck (for example to say good luck moving house into a new home, or to pass on good luck wishes for someone retiring, or even taking an exam). Our ceramic art (and other figurines and statuettes) make authentic gifts from Spain and are in fact unique Spanish souvenirs too – something that would make a very good gift from Spain.

Spanish ceramic figurines

Our Spanish ceramics figurines of geckos, butterflies, tortoises, owls, and other creatures, are not strictly pottery (from the clay-firing point of view) but they are fine examples of Spanish ceramic art with their hand-painted, porcelain-like finish.

These Spanish figurines are crafted in Spain’s Cataluña region to the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula bordering on the Pyrenees mountains, France and the rugged Mediterranean coast opposite the islands of Mallorca, Minorca and Ibiza – an area characterised by small archipelagos, wide beaches and glistening bays. These fine stone resin pieces are hand-painted in stunningly vibrant colours to produce these marvellous works of art. Because each ceramic is individually painted, each figurine is unique and no one is identical to any other.

One of the things Catalonia is famous for is its ceramic artists, especially Joan Miró, and Antoni Gaudí. Gaudí was principally an architect (known as one of the main exponents of Catalan Modernism) and most of his work is located in Barcelona, including his main achievement, the church of the Sagrada Família. He integrated his architecture with ceramics and introduced new techniques in the treatment of materials and in using waste ceramic pieces. His work in Barcelona’s Park Güell is a huge tourist attraction (to “Gaudi’s Barcelona”) and it is the home of the world-famous salamander known an “El Drac”.

The style of finish on our ceramic art pieces mimics the modernist architectural style seen around Cataluña (the birthplace of Antoni Gaudí . . and of course the painter Salvador Dalí).
